5 Ways To Rock That Plain Jane Blazer This Season!
12 OctThe navy blazer is definitely a hot contender for your closet this winter, but I remain partial to the good old slim, slightly longer, well-tailored black blazer (the tux version with ultra slim lapels are to die for right now). Come spring and the Bianca Jagger-esque white blazers are about to take over. ..stay tuned for more on that! But for now, let’s try and make the most of the Plain Jane blazer.
1. Belt it:
Slim and sleek belts worn over your blazer will do a world of good to your outfit. It will just clinch your waistline but also break the monotony of a dull outfit.
2. Roll it up:
Worn unbuttoned, rolled up sleeves have that unmistakable preppy look with a twist.
3. Wear it with little else:
Blazer for a night on the town? Why not! Wear the sleek blazer over high-waisted shorts, stockings and a tiny lace number. or perhaps a leopard corset print top…. You could also wear the blazer over a heavily sequined top or dress. Either way, it spells HOT!
4. Work it with a vest:
A blazer can make anything look boardroom-ready, yup, even your well worn white/ grey vest and blue jeans. Just pair it with a pair of brogues and your’re off to work! Pssst… Go rock n roll with a goth, embellished vest under the blazer and some wicked black pearls to go with it for a neo preppy look.
5.Dress it up… or down:
Tone down that hot dress with a blazer and leggings for the office…. Simply take off the blazer and leggings for a sick night out after work!
FY How To Guide To Preppy Chic!
10 OctThe class nerd’s wardrobe is suddenly so in vogue! From button ups to zip downs, from scalloped collars to tailored blazers, preppy chic is the new fashion crush this season. Take a cue from DKNY, Tory Burch, Mulberry or D&G for a super chic ‘College librarian-meets – Alexa Chung’ look.
My personal pick is a pair of easy fitting trousers with suspenders, heels and a sleek blazer over a simple white vest top. Throw on a woven scarf and you’re good to go!
A simpler option is a bold stripped knee-length dress worn over opaque leggings and low-cut booties. A cross body satchel bag and a sleeveless hoodie would complete the look.
Hair: The French Braid, Ribbon-ed hair bands, neat pins and clips…bid goodbye to the messy do!
Autumn Winter 2011: The prim and the Propah!
Think button up shirts, polo necks, bow ties and peter pan collars would ever be in fashion? They are now, and boy, do they look good! It’s like Julie Andrews from the Sound of Music just got a sexy makeover in 2011. Check these super chic pieces for some inspiration for your autumn winter ’11 closet.
Accessories:
Add a string of pearls or chunky bracelet to complete your look. Large buckle up shoes, low booties, loafers and brogues define ‘preppy chic’. The ankle socks and buckle ups look cute too but they’re not age appropriate for everyone.
Okay so it’s prim-and-propah season, but it’s also 2011! Add your own lil touch to the neat and ‘well turned out’ preppy look- How about a button up bow tie collar worn with ripped blue denim?
